CESL Asia Head Office hosted a high-level delegation from the Intermunicipal Council of Western Portugal (OesteCIM), led by Mr. Hermínio José da Cruz Augusto Rodrigues, Mayor of Alcobaça and President of the Intermunicipal Council of OesteCIM. The delegation included municipal Mayors from across the Oeste region, Ms. Teresa Almeida, President of the Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR) of Lisboa e Vale do Tejo, and Mr. Bernardo Pinho of AICEP Macau.

The meeting focused on bilateral opportunities in Rural Territorial Development, sustainable agriculture and energy, with a prominent emphasis on advancing Agrovoltaic (AgroPV) technology across Portugal.

During the executive presentation, CESL Asia leadership, including COO and Director Mr. Roland Schoorl, Director Ms. Jiang Tong, and Senior Technical Manager Mr. Miguel Santos, showcased the CESL Asia Group’s business initiatives and highlighted the operational success of its AgroPV Demonstration Plant in Alentejo. Key Economic & Strategic Takeaways Presented to the Delegation:

Empowering the Rural Economy: By optimizing land use through the integration of photovoltaic energy generation and agricultural production on the same footprint, AgroPV protects national food sovereignty while driving rural prosperity. With proper regulatory frameworks, AgroPV is estimated to generate an additional €1,500 to €3,000 per hectare per year in agricultural revenue for farmers, effectively doubling the economic value of rural land.

National Pilot Program & Regulatory Sandbox: To turn this vision into reality, CESL Asia highlighted the urgent need for a National AgroPV Pilot Project Program paired with an experimental regulatory sandbox environment. This initiative will enable public and private stakeholders to agree on optimal agricultural-technological models, operations, and regulatory best practices.

A Strategic Lever aligned with Digital & Grid Infrastructure: Integrating AgroPV directly into Portugal's national agricultural, energy, and digital strategies creates a high-impact, self-financing engine for national economic growth. Aligning AgroPV development with ongoing grid investments (REN) and Data Center infrastructure will unlock high-impact regional development, particularly in agricultural regions such as Western Portugal (Oeste).

Looking ahead, CESL Asia reaffirmed its commitment to launching large-scale pilot initiatives in Portugal, positioning the Oeste region at the forefront of the country's green and digital transition.

The awards ceremony for the “CESL Asia Social Investment Initiative: Kid’s Drawing Contest – ‘Garden Our City’,” organized by CESL Asia in collaboration with the Macau Youth Art Association, took place on September 8 at the Macau Ho’s Clan Association Exhibition Hall.

This year marks the seventh year of CESL Asia’s ongoing partnership with the Macau Youth Art Association to host the Kid’s Drawing Contest. The initiative was made possible by the substantial support of ten partners from diverse societal sectors. The contest drew over 100 students aged 8 to 14 from more than 30 schools and institutions across Macau, with entries that showcased remarkable imagination and aspirations for urban living, environmental protection, and future urban development.

The theme for this year, “Garden Our City,” aimed to enhance the awareness and engagement of the younger generation with urban development and community environment. Students were encouraged to observe their surroundings, identify challenges and potential in existing leisure areas, and explore new possibilities through creative thinking. Entries focused on six key thematic elements: City Gardening, Urban Parks & Green Zones, AI Smart Environmental Care, Low-carbon City Life, Urban Space Renewal, and Better Quality of Life. Drawing on Macau’s climate and regional characteristics, students presented their visions for the city’s future development.

This vision aligns closely with CESL Asia’s emphasis on public spaces and community development. The concept of the “City Terrace,” which integrates greenery, relaxation, interaction, and lifestyle, represents a form of public space where citizens can connect with nature, unwind, and engage with the cityscape. Through the competition, these creative ideas from children offer fresh perspectives for future public space planning, helping urban development to respond more inclusively to the needs and aspirations of different generations.

Mr. Antonio Trindade, President and CEO of CESL Asia, emphasized that children are not only future city users but also current observers and creative contributors: “Their daily experiences provide them with unique perspectives that can help us view familiar urban spaces from a different angle. From greenery and environmental protection to smart technology and public spaces, their works demonstrate remarkable creativity and reflect the new generation’s aspirations for a more sustainable and livable Macau.”

 Mr. Lai Sio Kit, President of the Macau Youth Art Association, praised the students’ artistic maturity: “Beyond thematic relevance, we were impressed by how participants used composition, color, and spatial layering to translate urban observations into distinctive visual expressions.”

The winning works are on display at the Macau Ho’s Clan Association Exhibition Hall from September 8 to 18. The public is warmly invited to visit the exhibition and explore fresh, youth-driven visions for a greener, more vibrant, and people-centered Macau.

CESL Asia proudly celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the CESL Asia Social Investment Initiative (CSII), a pioneering impact program launched in 2000, with the successful hosting of the “CESL Asia and Friends Sport Fun Day 2025” on 15 November at the Macao Federation of Trade Unions Workers' Stadium.

Bringing together over 25 companies and organizations, the event developed a vibrant platform of sportsmanship, inclusion, and community care, while raising MOP 155,000 in support of Macau Special Olympics (MSO). The donation will help empower athletes to pursue their sporting dreams and achieve new milestones.

This year’s event held particular significance as Macau is co-hosting the 15th National Games in the Greater Bay Area in 2025, a milestone that highlights the region’s growing commitment to sports excellence and integration. Through the CSII, CESL Asia has long supported the development of talented athletes in Macau, encouraging participation across different sectors and promoting the values of teamwork, resilience, and community engagement.

A major highlight of the event was the Corporate Inclusive Bocce Tournament, where corporate teams, CESL Asia volunteers, their families, and MSO athletes competing side by side in a spirit of equality and inclusion. “CESL Asia Team 1” emerged as the Golden Cup Champion, while “CESL Asia Team 2” claimed the Silver Plate Champion title. In the Corporate Football Tournament, “Galaxy Entertainment Group” triumphed as Champion, demonstrating exceptional teamwork and enthusiasm. The event also featured a Football Friendly Match between CESL Asia and MSO, showcasing the enduring partnership between the two parties throughout the years.

At this year’s C-PLPEX, CESL Asia is presenting key initiatives including AgroPV, aerospace innovation for high-tech farming solutions, AI-driven energy system and assets management platform. These initiatives demonstrate advancements in high-tech agriculture, renewable energy, energy management and artificial intelligence, driving sustainability and operational excellence.

One of CESL Asia’s flagship initiatives, AgroPV, integrates modern agricultural practices with renewable energy generation through Photovoltaic (PV) technology. This innovative model highlights CESL Asia’s vision for sustainable agriculture through technological synergy, combining clean energy production with enhanced animal welfare and ecological resilience.

The pilot AgroPV solar power plant at Monte do Pasto, CESL Asia’s farm in Portugal’s Alentejo region, has an installed capacity of 243 kWp and produces approximately 387 MWh of electricity annually. Covering 1,170 square meters of shaded area, it helps reduce heat stress on cattle and preserve their natural behavior. Supported by battery storage, the system enables the farm and its feed factory to achieve near energy self-sufficiency, meeting up to 97% of their energy needs internally. Next step is to develop AgroPV system at scale of hundreds of MW for all sorts of Agriculture applications.

In partnership with Spin.Works, a Portuguese aerospace company established in 2006 and specializing in Earth observation and missions to the Moon and Mars, CESL Asia is developing spatio-temporal prediction systems for agricultural and livestock operations. By integrating remote optical-photonic sensors, computer vision, and AI-based analytics, the system, now in use at Monte do Pasto and the solar plant, enhances productivity, product quality and sustainability, and the company aims to introduce its solutions with CESL Asia across agricultural sectors in both European and Chinese markets.

CESL Asia’s collaboration with EREN, a strategic investor in innovative low-carbon technologies, and DELC, a start-up specializing in energy transition in Mainland China, aims to advance AI technologies in the Greater Bay Area to optimize energy systems and building HVAC operations. These innovations are designed to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and accelerate the region’s transition toward smarter, greener, and more sustainable infrastructure, and the joint venture is introducing these solutions in Macau and Asia markets.

Designed in-house by CESL Asia with a local technology partner, ORTUX is an intelligent People, Asset, and Resources Management Platform that supports smarter and more productive asset management. By integrating AI technologies with CESL Asia’s 35+ years of operational expertise, ORTUX can improve efficiency by over 35% and reduce facility maintenance costs by 25% to 35%, promoting both sustainability and profitability. 

Through these groundbreaking initiatives and partnerships, CESL Asia continues to bridge innovative technology and sustainability, strengthening collaboration between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. The awards ceremony for the CESL Asia Social Investment Initiative Kid’s Drawing Contest 2025 – “Future Urban Planners,” organized by CESL Asia in partnership with the Macau Youth Art Association, was successfully held on September 9 at the Dr. Stanley Ho Auditorium, Consulate General of Portugal in Macau and Hong Kong.

This year’s contest, themed “Future Urban Planners,” encouraged students to unleash their creativity and step into the shoes of tomorrow’s urban planners. Participants were challenged to reimagine Macau’s urban environments, envisioning a sustainable city that integrates eco-friendly spaces, smart city technologies, and community-focused urban design, bringing to life a vision where innovation, nature, and people coexist in harmony. The contest attracted over 100 students, aged 8 to 14, from more than 40 schools and institutions across Macau, with entries vividly reflecting exceptional imagination and aspirations for the city’s future urban blueprint.

Mr. Antonio Trindade, President and CEO of CESL Asia, emphasized that the contest is more than just a platform to showcase artistic talent, it is an educational opportunity that stimulates imagination and inspires innovative thinking. Through artistic creation, we aim to guide the next generation to engage with urban development from an early age, cultivating creativity and a strong sense of mission, and inspiring them to consider how innovative design can bring about positive and lasting change. In addition, he shared an inspiring message with the participants: "Your imagination is more important than what you already knew," encouraging young minds to prioritize creativity and innovation.

Mr. Lai Sio Kit, President of the Macau Youth Art Association and a member of the judging panel, commended this year’s submission for their outstanding technical skill and creativity and noted, “The young artists combined boundless imagination with a thoughtful understanding of urban development. Their complex compositions and bold use of color were striking, offering unique perspective on the future city.”

A total of 33 winners were recognized for their outstanding submissions: the Golden Award was presented to Tam Cheng Hei (Escola Choi Nong Chi Tai), the Silver Award to U Iek Hei (Hou Kong Middle School), the Bronze Award to Mak Chun Ngai (Pui Ching Middle School Macau); the Online Popularity Award to Lei Chin Wai (The Affiliated School of the University of Macau); and the Organization Supporting Artistry Awards went to Hou Kong Middle School, Escola Tak Meng, and Poly Music, based on the number of participants. In addition, 30 works were selected for special commendation.

This edition marks a notable milestone as it coincides with the 25th Anniversary of the CESL Asia Social Investment Initiative (CSII), a pioneering impact investment programme launched in 2000. Featuring the “Corporate Inclusive Bocce Tournament” and the “Corporate Football Tournament,” the event celebrated values of inclusion, health, and sustainability. Teams from various sectors partnered with Special Olympics athletes, creating an atmosphere of mutual respect, camaraderie, and joy in sport.

The football tournament energised spectators as 'MGM' claimed the championship. In the Corporate Inclusive Bocce Tournament, 'CESL Asia (Team A)' and 'Banco Comercial de Macau, S.A.' won the Golden Cup and Silver Plate. Atom Education further promoted inclusivity with handball and floorball zones, where Special Olympics athletes and local children explored new sports enjoying the benefits of athletic participation.

The award ceremony for the "Sustainable City and Green Future 4-Panel Comic Drawing Contest," organised by CESL Asia in partnership with the Macau Youth Art Association, was successfully held on 11th September at McDonald's, Macao Science Centre.

Now in its fifth year, this educational and entertaining children's drawing contest on sustainability and quality of life in our city has continued to receive strong support from the community. This year’s competition attracted over 100 students, aged 8 to 14, from more than 20 schools and institutions across Macau. Their artwork vividly expressed aspirations for sustainable urban development and a greener future, featuring themes such as renewable energy, smart cities, green transportation, and environmental actions—all creatively illustrated with a unique personal style.

Reflecting on the contest's continued success, Mr António Trindade, President and CEO of CESL Asia, said: "I am delighted to see the tremendous support from students, teachers, and schools in Macau over the past five years. This contest has enabled the younger generation to explore the importance of sustainability and green living in our city through art.
