        Q    What was the working situation during Typhoon "Hato"?
          問 天鴿來襲當日的工作情況?
        We started to contact our staff to report duty at work before higher typhoon signal
        to be hoisted. During Typhoon Hato, the notification time of hoisting signal no.3,
        no.8 and no.10 was short and urgent, and some staff are not able to come back at
        work due to traffic condition. Therefore, we had great shortage of manpower and
        some staff had to work overtime. With the “special task special method” spirit
        and “Teamwork” in mind, every colleague was willing to take responsibility and
        worked with strong team spirit. We have to give credit to every one of them.
        On that day, problems were everywhere, such as automatic door could not been closed and locked, windows were bro-
        ken, fences of the airport collapsed etc. The above issues caused severe safety and security problems, plus every single
        problem need to be handled right away; therefore, prioritization was significant. In addition, airport is large in size, all
        teams had to perform emergency repairs at different locations which led to the deterioration of shortage of manpower.
        Fortunately, due to the strong teamwork spirit, supported by airport teams and other operating units, flights were suc-
        cessfully resumed few hours after typhoon signal no.10 was lowered. Airport management company sent us a thank you
        letter for the teams’ dedication.

        當天,在我們知道將會改掛更高風球時,便開始通知同事上班。但由於颱風信號從三號到八號,再改掛十號
        的時間間隔非常短促,有些同事因交通情況而無法回來,衍生人手短缺問題。因此部分同事需超時工作,
        但本著「特事特辦」的精神,同事們均主動承擔工作,發揮良好的團隊精神,在此由衷地感激每位同事的付
        出。當天的問題來自四方八面,例如自動門無法關閉、玻璃破裂、機場外圍籬笆倒塌等,如此種種,導致安
        全及保安問題,每個問題均亟待解決。而由於時間倉促,我們需立刻判斷各樣問題的先後處理順序。加上機
        場占地廣闊,團隊需分散到機場各處進行搶修工作,導致人手短缺的問題更為嚴峻。幸得大家同心協力,連
        同機場各營運單位的堅守,最終機場在十號風球除下數小時後,飛機便能復航。其後,機場管理公司向我們
        發出感謝信,給予整個團隊的努力的肯定。


        Q     What kind of contingency mechanism and urgency procedures were utilized?
          問 當日採取了什麼應變機制及緊急措施?

        Safety and security are top priorities for airport management. To support daily operation of airport and assure the safety
        and security, we mainly divided into four teams including civil, mechanic, electric and IT. The teams faced different
        problems respectively, for example, there were plenty of glasses in airport terminal building and even though it was a
        sunny day after the typhoon day, another typhoon was approaches Macau in such situation, our staff must fix the broken
        glasses within few days only and you can imagine how stressful it was.

        Secondly, leakage was unpreventable on that day, emergency repair and waterproofing measure need to be performed
        immediately. Basically, all respective areas had different degree of damages, such as electrical area, there was leakage
        at a power substation which caused power system problem, and our staff must perform emergency repair works under
        strong wind.Another serious problem was at the terminal building, some of the automatic doors were blown open by the
        strong wind, rainwater were blown into the building and the smoke detector was out of order, which activated the fire
        alarm. Therefore, we had to urgently investigate, shut and lock the door to prevent further problems, security guards from
        airport security company also came to give a helping hand, and it took over ten strong men to shut and lock the automatic
        door. There were many urgent matters needed to be handled on that day in addition to repair works, we provided a lot of
        support to the passengers and airport users, such as providing bottles of water and blankets.

        為支持機場的日常營運及保證其安全性和保安性,我們主要分開四個團隊來看,包括土木、機械,電氣及資
        訊。而各隊伍在當天都面臨各種難題;舉例來說,候機大樓外牆其中的大量玻璃在颱風當天產生破裂,縱使
        颱風翌日是晴天,但另一颱風又即將登陸,這也代表同事們必須在短時間內把大量玻璃進行鞏固,可想而知
        壓力之大。  其次,滲漏水的情況也在所難免,我們需立即作出搶修或防水的緊急維修。總括來,基本四個團
        隊負責的部分均都各有損毀及立即處理的情況,像以電氣部為例,同事必須在強風下到外面的電器分站作出
        搶修;而候機大樓則是有部分自動門被強風吹開,風、雨水被吹進大樓;煙霧頭失靈,引致火警鐘誤鳴,我
        們必須快速檢查,同時需要關閉自動門。除了我們外,機場保安公司的保安員也來幫忙,在10幾位大漢合力                                                           6
        下,終把自動門鎖好。當天我們亦給予機場使用者很大的支援,像是在現場發放食水、毛毯給他們等。
