事(與會者) 張達康（RC）工程師和 Miguel Santos（MAS）工程師來進行一次訪談:

Q: Both of you are local engineers, so you should know very well how the engineers act as the factor of growing
a community. Would you share your thoughts?
作為本地工程師，你們應該相當了解工程師在社區發展中的角色。可以分享一下你們的想法嗎？

MAS: The quality of life depends on many factors including how well is the territory suited to the community, how
it was adapted from its original form and how the community is respecting the environment. In all these activities,
engineering plays a key role in the development of a community and keeping its growth sustainable.

MAS：生活品質的好壞取決於多種因素。其中，重要的包括人們如何將土地合理利用以迎合社會之所需，在
其原貌之上作出的改變，以及對大自然的尊重。在所有的這些活動中，工程學在社區的可持續發展發揮著關
鍵的作用。

Q: Since Macau is the platform between Portuguese and Chinese Culture, how does it function to link-up the
luso-sino speaking engineers?
澳門作為中葡文化的交匯平台，它如何有效地連繫並促進中國和葡語系國家工程師之間的交流呢?

RC: As per the honorable Dutch social psychologist, Prof. Geert Hofstede, "Culture is the collective programming of the
mind" (Hofstede, 1980). When two different cultures meet, the cultural difference can create a vast discrepancy. With
a unique history, Macau has been functioning as the platform between Chinese and Portuguese cultures since the very
beginning. Therefore, benefiting from an in-depth understanding of both Chinese and Portuguese culture, the platform
has grown healthy with sufficient nutrient. Moreover, since science and technology are the core of engineering, the
cross-cultural impact to the cooperation between Luso-Sino engineers shall be lesser than the other industries. The
above-mentioned discussion concluded that all the necessary elements are gathered and I have the notion that the
formation of platform for Luso-Sino engineers is inevitable.

In my opinion, the platform functions as the pivot to link-up the parties efficiently, in which three critical elements
are highlighted including Network, Understanding and Empathy. All these elements are correlated positively to each
other. In a nutshell, as part of China, Macau has the very special history where a robust network connecting to the
Portuguese speaking engineers was evolved spontaneously. The network works in two-ways that is also accessible by
Chinese engineers. Driven by the in-depth understandings to both cultures, Macau engineers are able to narrow down
any discrepancy with empathy.

RC: 根據荷蘭社會心理學家Geert Hofstede教授的說法，「文化就是思想的集體規劃」(Hofstede,1980)。當
兩種截然不同的文化相遇時，因應它們各有不同的風俗，往往會產生巨大的差異。憑藉獨特的歷史，澳門早
便受益於對祖國和葡萄牙文化的深入了解，從而得以完全投入作為中葡文化平台的角色。加上工程的核心是
科技發展，因此在中葡國家工程師合作過程中出現的文化衝突更是相對小於其他行業。

綜上所述，澳門作為平台的角色對中葡工程師之間的交流是不可或缺的，是聯繫中葡文化的樞紐。其中三個
關鍵要素包括：1.人際網絡; 2.相互理解; 3.同理心。 這些要素都是相輔相成的。簡而言之，作為祖國的一部
分，文化獨樹一幟的澳門自然成為了一個為中葡國家工程師而設的雙向網絡，透過互相深入理解和同理心從
而縮窄彼此間文化的差異。
